The plant gives an essential oil, Rue oil, used as anthelminthic, antispasmodic, antiepileptic, rubefacient, emmenagogue, narcotic, and in rheumatism. Herb juice in earache and toothache, locally applied in rheumatism of joints and antibacterial. Also used to relieve colic and gas pains and improve appetite and digestion. Used to promote onset of menstruation and uteral contractions.
